Plastic Portraits

After the completion of my BFA exhibition, I was astounded by the amount of waste produced. Empty tubes of paint and loads of plastic leftover from the installation. This lead to an experiment in my life drawing class, by adhering plastic bags to paper to create an image. After drawing out the figure, I pasted the plastic bag over the top, ripping it into malleable pieces while overlaying the material to create depth.

These portraits analyze several commentaries about plastic production at a consumer level and a company level. All commentaries lead back to the overarching goal, to bring awareness about a terrible crisis we are experiencing. I hope that by visualizing what we are becoming, my audience will feel inspired to evoke change.
